I am back working on the Diaprepes project in Florida again. Makes a
pleasant (minor) change from iron ore.
Also some interesting new work on mapping plants
round the edge of a reservoir in Essex.

Well, here I sit in my shady living
room in my wee granny house the day after my 60th birthday. Yesterday,
my neighbour asked if I would be retiring now and my answer was “chance would
be a fine thing!”. For the last 37 years, I have been
lucky enough to spend my time on fascinating work, travelling to places and
meeting people who have made my life vibrant and intellectually stimulating. There
are still so many places to go and so many people to meet!!
May 2008 was a very surreal experience, starting in St
Ives (Cornwall)
on holiday with my Mother and ending in St Ives (Cambridgeshire) training a
couple of ecological consultants. In between, two
weeks in Canada taking in
CIM Edmonton – not a success, but got to visit Clayton Deutsch at U of A –
and another BYO course under the Edumine banner in Vancouver. Add to that
one overnight and a four day holiday weekend in London with family, and it leaves 5 nights
in my “ain wee hoose”!
Plans for the rest of this year include EIG Cardiff at the
end of June, the SEG-GSSA in South Africa
(July), Geo-ENV in Southampton in September and possibly the Geostatistics
Congress in Santiago
in December. 2009 dates for Vancouver
courses have been set – one dovetailing with the APCOM 2009.
Going to the launch of the new European Reporting Code on
17th June and helping to launch the new IMMa
at the same meeting. We are reclaiming our Institution (I hope) after several
years buried under the weight of the IOM3 Materials majority.
