“Geostatistics” is the generic name for a family of techniques which are used for mapping of surfaces from limited sample data. First developed 40 years ago, these methods are now widely used in the minerals industry and have disseminated out into many other fields where 'spatial' data is studied. Check out an early article by Isobel Clark (only 500 words!)

Geostokos (EcoSSe) Ltd was set up in late 1998 to provide teaching materials, software and advice for non-specialists wishing to use and understand geostatistical methods in their own fields of application. The textbook ‘Practical Geostatistics 2000’ - an updated and much extended version of the original ‘Practical Geostatistics’ (1979) - was first released in August 2000. ‘Answers to the Exercises’ was first released December 2000. Planned additions to the series include ‘Case Studies’ and Volume 2: Simulation and more complex kriging approaches.

The practical application side of EcoSSe is supported by over 30 years of experience – both teaching and practice -- from Dr Isobel Clark, the author of the definitive textbook "Practical Geostatistics" (published in 1979) and co-author of "Practical Geostatistics 2000" and "Practical Geostatistics 2000, Answers to the Exercises".

Bill Harper

Practical experience and a lively academic mind are provided by Dr William V Harper (right), who has 20 years experience in the application of statistical and geostatistical techniques to environmental and pollution problems as well as a solid grounding in simulation and optimising methods. Dr Harper is co-author of "Practical Geostatistics 2000" and "Practical Geostatistics 2000, Answers to the Exercises".
